How hard are drivers to port? Is it possible at all? (From LinuxPPC, not a *86-based driver)

I was thinking about my Voodoo3 2000. Would it be possible to get 2D/3D accelleration? I'm not sure if the accelleration is in the window manager (ie off limits) or somewhere else, I'm not a unix guy.
