There's an important difference between the two;One is unix based, requires developer tools, requires special knowledge, requires using the terminal. One does not. One is easy, but not as powerful. One is powerful, but not as easy. I think fink outta package all their software to support a broader audience of mac users.

Here's a dirty little secret: Fork'd is fink'd, with a brand spanking new label.Also, I could be wrong, but I believe Fink offers binaries now that don't require developer tools. IMHO, if someone can't figure out the terminal, they're not going to get much use out of things like Apache or MySQL either way, so that's kind of a moot point.
