Well, it seems that upgrading to OS X Server 10.1 means that you lose the cool "wget" utility ... and the latest version does not compile cleanly.

just FYI, wget is easy as pie to compile if you want to do it yourself, shouldn't have any problem by doing typical, ./configure ; make ; make install a .pkg probably wouldn't take too long to be made here since no tweaking necessary if i can remember right

For the record, I never make a request on this board that I haven't tried compiling myself first. As I said in my original post, wget-1.7 does not compile cleanly on OS X Server 10.1.
